The Senior Enlisted Advisor
The Senior Enlisted Advisor reports directly to the Commanding General. The Senior Enlisted Advisor acts as the voice of the Exchange, traveling to military installations worldwide to educate with garrison and wing leadership, as well as customers about the exchange and benefits to our patrons. He also brings issues back to the command to be resolved / implemented.
Chief Master Sergeant Jeffry D. Helm is the Senior Enlisted Leader to the Commanding General, Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES), headquartered in Dallas, Texas. AAFES is the 34th largest retail company in the World, with annual revenue of $9.9B. It employs more than 43,000 civilians and provides department stores, convenience stores, gas stations, restaurants, theaters, vending and other businesses on military installations in 50 States and 30+ Countries. His primary responsibility is to act as the focal point for communications between the commander and the 12.2M U.S. Army & Air Force active duty, guard, reserve, family members and retired customers. In addition, Chief Helm travels to Army and Air Force installations worldwide to present updates on AAFES activities and to provide the commander with feedback on issues affecting AAFES' customers.
Chief Helm was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He joined the Air Force in July 1982 and has held various positions throughout his Air Force career to include Fuels Technician, Enlisted Recruiter, Officer Training School Recruiter, an instructor at the Air Force Senior Noncommissioned Officer Academy, and the Command Chief at the United States Air Force Expeditionary Center, Fort Dix, NJ. He assumed his current position in September 2008.
