Located 6 miles east of Del Rio, Texas and 9 miles north of the international border between the US and Mexico, Laughlin AFB is the home of the 47th Flying Training Wing. Laughlin AFB conducts specialized undergraduate flight training to more than 400 students each year. The area in and around Del Rio has long been recognized as one of the best hunting spots in southwest Texas. Fishing is fun in Amistad Reservoir, with plentiful bass, perch and catfish. The Air Force Outdoor Recreation Area offers a boat ramp, rentals and a bait store. Amistad Dam is the third largest international man-made lake in the world.
